a nice change to broiling or grilling, the gravy is delicious. i always serve this with mashed potatoes.

3 lbs beef top round steak
1/4 cup flour
salt, pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 1/2 cups beef stock
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 lbs sliced onions
1. preheat oven to 375.
2. pound steak to tenderize.
3. dredge both sides in flour,salt%26amp; pepper.
4. in heavy oven proof skillet heat oil, add steak and brown on both sides, remove add stock, bring to boil, scraping bits off pan.
5. add worcestershire sauce, more salt%26amp; pepper to taste, remove from heat.
6. layer half the onions in pan, add steak, layer rest of onions, broth,spoon some broth on top bake for 2 hours, covered, basting steak after 1 hour.
7. remove to cutting board and slice.
8. serve w/the gravy.How to cook steak in oven?
I like roasting some garlic in extra virgin olive oil..after about 10 minutes throw a *seasoned steak on top and cook accordingly.
*Season the steak to your liking..either salt and pepper or use an already mixed seasoning.
You should broil the steak.
Put the broiling tray on an upper rack and pre-heat the oven with the broiling tray inside it.
Spread a light coating of olive oil across the steak
(You may wish to mix a bit of chopped garlic and a bit of black pepper with the oil first)
Pull the rack that is holding the tray from the oven with a suitable tool. The tray will be very hot, so be careful when pulling the rack.
Place the steak on the tray and re-insert into the oven.
Broil with the door open a bit, as the oven tends to heat quickly and may turn the element off.
Timing depends on how thick your meat is.
Allow about 2 minutes per side for 1 /2 inch thickness. for medium rare.
